Kitten Palooza

  • When and where is Kitten Palooza being held?

The adoption event will be held in person by appointment only on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Hawaiian Humane Society Mōʻiliʻili Campus located at 2700 Waiʻalae Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96826.

You must apply online in advance to request an appointment. We will not be able to accommodate walk-in attendees.

  • Why do I need to apply in advance?

In order to be matched with a kitten, and scheduled for your appointment, questionnaires must be submitted in advance.

This popular kitten adoption event attracts hundreds of hopeful adopters, and we don’t have enough space for everyone who wants to attend.

Applying in advance helps reduce crowding, speeds up event check-in, and sets you up for a more comfortable, smoother experience on adoption day!

  • When can I apply? How do I request an appointment?

The link to apply in advance and request an appointment is now live!

We’ll review adoption questionnaires in the order they are received. Once your questionnaire is approved*, we’ll send you a link through Acuity Scheduling to schedule your appointment for the event day (June 30).

Pre-approved adopters will then come to the Mōʻiliʻili Campus at their appointment time (scheduled between 10:00 am – 5:00 pm) on the Kitten Palooza event day to adopt the kitten/kittens they’ve been matched with!

*Applying does not guarantee an appointment. Questionnaires will be reviewed in the order they are received. We may receive more questionnaires than we can accommodate, and appointment times are limited. Apply early for the best appointment availability!

  • How will I know if my adoption questionnaire is approved?

If your questionnaire is approved and appointments are still available, you will receive an email from us with a link to schedule your appointment for the adoption event. We will review and reply to questionnaires in the order they are received, and it could take up to 48 hours before you hear from us.

Please do not call or email to ask about the status of your questionnaire – staff and volunteers will be busy reviewing questionnaires as quickly as they can. We promise to contact you as soon as possible with an update!

  • Does applying mean that I have an appointment?

Applying through the event link is how you request an appointment for Kitten Palooza, but it’s not a guarantee.

Our team will review questionnaires in the order they are received. We have a limited number of appointments available, and it’s possible that we will receive more questionnaires than we can accommodate. We’ll contact you if we have any questions.

After you submit your questionnaire, we will contact you as soon as possible with an update on your adoption status! Please be patient; it could take up to 48 hours or so before you hear from us.

  • How does matchmaking work?

When you complete your adoption questionnaire, you will enter your top three choices of kittens you would like to adopt. The Hawaiian Humane adoption team will do their best to match you with your first adoption choice.

For example, on your questionnaire, you check that your first choice is an orange, male kitten, your second choice is a female, solid grey kitten, and your third choice is a tuxedo kitten. HHS will do their best to find a male, orange kitten that will be ready for you to pick up on the day of your event. If there are no male, orange kittens available, HHS will try to find you a male, solid grey kitten that you will pick up on the event day. If there are no male, solid grey kittens, then HHS will have a tuxedo cat ready for you.

  • What happens if I don’t fall in love with the kitten I am matched with?

We are confident that you will fall in love with the adorable kitten that you are matched with once you see them, but if for some reason you are not confident in the match, you can choose not to move forward with adoption. Hawaiian Humane will work to find a new adoption match for you and you can come back at a later time to adopt a different kitten. Different kittens become available daily at Hawaiian Humane.

  • What should I expect at my appointment?

On Friday, June 30, any adopter with an appointment will come to Hawaiian Humane’s Mōʻiliʻili Campus to meet their perfect kitten match in person at the time of their scheduled appointment!

During your appointment, our staff and volunteers will guide you to a classroom for an adoption counseling session to review everything you need to know about your new kitten/kittens. At this time, you will receive all medical and behavior information about your kitten/kittens, and you will have time to ask questions.

After your counseling session, a staff member or volunteer will bring you the kitten/kittens you have been matched with.

You will then sign your adoption contract, pay your adoption fee, and bring home your new best friend, or friends!

All kittens will be ready to go home with you after your adoption is finalized, so please plan accordingly.

You should expect to be at the shelter for at least 1 hour to complete the adoption process.

  • How much is the adoption fee and what does it include?

Kitten adoption fees are $100. For Kitten Palooza, Hawaiian Humane will offer a 50% discount off the second kitten if you adopt two kittens at the same time, for a total fee of $150 for two kitten and $100 for one.

All kittens receive a full medical examination and the appropriate vaccinations, de-wormer, flea and tick treatment, spay/neuter surgery and a microchip. Vaccinations vary by species and may include: bordetella, distemper, hepatitis, para influenza, leptospirosis and parvovirus. We also partner with many local veterinary clinics who offer your first visit free of charge.

  • Why should I consider adopting two kittens?

Hawaiian Humane has a lot of kittens in our care, especially throughout the summer. The more kittens that get adopted, the more we can help! Plus, there are many benefits to adopting pairs of kittens. They can learn basic litter box and grooming norms from one another, learn proper play styles from playing with each other, remain active and enriched by entertaining one another, and get into less trouble by occupying each other when left alone!

  • What do I need to know about the temperament and behavior of the kittens available for this event? Kitt

The kittens available for this adoption event will be between the ages of 2 and 4 months. Kittens in this age range are active, playful and curious. Kittens need structured playtime to channel their energy and keep them out of trouble. It’s important to have plenty of different toys available for your kitten like interactive toys, wands, balls and tunnels. A natural kitten behavior is scratching, so you will also need to provide a variety of scratching pads and posts to prevent them from scratching on carpets and furniture.

  • Where can I see which kittens will be at the event?

Kittens for this event will not appear on the Hawaiian Humane website before the event. If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you may see us posting kittens, but these may not be for this event, or they may already be matched for an adoption. Remember: you will be matched with your kitten before the big day!

  • If I’m not ready to take my kitten home on June 30, can you hold them for me until later?

You’ll need to be available to take your kitten home on the same day as the event. There are no holds offered during Kitten Palooza.

This event helps kittens move out of the shelter/foster homes so that we can take in more animals in need. If you’re not available to take your adopted kitten home on June 30, please wait and visit when you’re ready. We will always have more kittens looking for homes!

  • I just want to come see kittens, not adopt. Can I make an appointment for Kitten Palooza?
