The Hawaiian Humane Society’s Teens4Animals Council members develop, promote and lead school and community animal welfare initiatives and events throughout their one-year term. Council members form friendships with like-minded youth and are instrumental in further perpetuating the Hawaiian Humane Society’s mission to promote the human-animal bond and the humane treatment of all animals.

During their term, Teens4Animals Council members have the opportunity to:

• Develop and lead educational events and initiatives related to animal welfare in their school and community
• Staff interactive booths and games at Hawaiian Humane Society and community events
• Serve as a Hawaiian Humane Society spokesperson, promoting programs and initiatives via external and internal news outlets
• Participate in advocacy efforts related to animal welfare
• Create and lead an animal welfare club at their school
• And more!

Students appointed to the Teens4Animals Council are expected to volunteer at events and attend quarterly meetings. Students are also required to participate in a 4-day training program.

• Students appointed to the Teens4Animals Council will be expected to participate in a 4-day in-person training program from June 16-19, 2025 9 am-12:30 pm at Hawaiian Humane’s two campuses. June 16-17 will be held at our Kosasa Family Campus at Hoʻopili (91-1945 Fort Weaver Rd, ʻEwa Beach, HI 96706) and June 18-19 will be held at our Mōʻiliʻili Campus (2700 Waiʻalae Ave, Honolulu, HI 96826).

In addition to the 4-day summer training, Council members attend quarterly meetings focused on different aspects of animal welfare like responsible fishing, ethical farming and more. The Council will go on field trips and assist at events throughout the year. All training program fees will be waived for Council members.

After the application is received, you may receive two phone calls regarding your position on the council. The first would be from one of our current Teens4Animals Council members who will ask a few questions to get to know you better. The second would be from our Education staff. Those selected for the 2025 – 2026 Teens4Animals Council will be notified by May 16, 2025.
