Take Your Pet to Work Week
Hawaiian Humane Society Celebrates Take Your Pet To Work Week
Celebrate Take Your Pet to Work Week from June 21 to 25. The awareness week highlights the special human-animal bond between owners and their pets and encourages adoptions from shelters.
The Hawaiian Humane Society welcomes community and business partners to honor this week-long celebration of the human-animal bond. Humane Society representatives are available to come to businesses or organizations to talk about adoption opportunities, pet ownership and other key advocacy programs.
Studies have shown that dogs in the workplace increases productivity and creativity, decreases absenteeism and improves co-worker relationships. And with Oahu households having 60 percent pet ownership and 43% dog ownership, creating more pet-friendly policies at work and at home make sense!
Some tips for a successful pets at work include keeping dogs on a leash, unless in the employee’s cubicle; use of baby gates to prevent dogs from leaving the office area unsupervised; designation of specific dog-free areas to accommodate other employees; and have a back-up plan for taking the dog home if he’s not comfortable. If you can’t bring your pet to work, hold a pet photo contest for employees or a fundraiser to support Humane Society adoptions.
The public should contact the Hawaiian Humane Society at 356-2247 for further information on participating in Take Your Pet to Work Week and developing pet-friendly policies.
