Dog Hiking
The Humane Society's Paws on the Path hiking club traverses Oahu's most beautiful trails. Volunteers lead free hikes on the last Saturday of every month.
Friendly dogs are welcomed. Hikes are about three miles, and typically take about two hours to complete. One dog per person is allowed and dogs must remain on a leash. Bring along poop bags, water and snacks.
Maunawili Gulch Trail
Difficulty Level: Beginner- Intermediate
Hiking Time: 2 hours
Date: Saturday, March 27, 2010
Meet At: 8:30 am
Hike Starts: 8:45 am
Directions From Town:
Take the H1 West to the Pali Highway. Exit onto the Pali Highway to the Pali Lookout. You will drive for about 3 miles and will see the off ramp on your right hand side.
Directions From Windward:
Take either the Kamehameha Highway (Kaneohe side) or Kalanianaole Highway (Waimanalo Side) to the Pali Highway. Head up the highway just over a mile and look for the exit to the Pali Lookout.
Park at the Pali Lookout on the summit of the Koolau Mountains; we will meet in the parking lot at 8:30. The hike begins here and leads downhill along an abandoned portion of the Old Pali Highway built in 1932. The area is lush with vegetation that is slowly taking over the road, but there are spectacular views of Kaneohe and Kailua.
